H12BH12

HOUSE FOR A HAIRSTYLIST
ITHACA, NY

FALL 2021

PROFESSOR: ALESSANDRA CIANCHETTA

H12BH12 is a play on the dichotomy between a hairstylist’s professional life and the blurred, more flexible nature of their domestic private life. A hair salon is a place in which one reflects on themselves, physically and metaphorically, and present themselves to be seen. The domestic sphere is dissimilarly a safe haven from the public eye and a space in which we dissociate into the comfort of imperfection and flexibility. Through the act of mirroring simple cubic masses both vertically and horizontally, a hierarchical system between a reflective public life and a blurred private life is established to create a 3,600 sq. ft. home in Ithaca, NY. The client, site parameters, material and structural systems were assigned.
