TRANSPARENCY IN DENSITY

LIBRARY

SENECA FALLS, NY

SPRING 2022

PROFESSOR: TOM CARRUTHERS

The concept of this library synthesizes notions of Phenomenal Transparency and Suprematism, largely inspired by the artworks by Kazmir Malevich. The abstraction of what started as a geometric drawing that designated program drew spatial adjacencies to several site factors and created a maze like structure. With such stark juxtaposition between negative and positive spaces, the challenge was to invoke ephemerality and transparency to views and circulatory paths of importance. The absence of concrete, its primary material, in several axis would encourage this circulation of people, knowledge, and light in a 6700sq. ft. allowable building area in Seneca Falls, NY.
